How important is ventilation?

Ventilation is of great importance in the building industry, as it helps to control the air quality in a well-insulated house, especially in winter when natural ventilation is not possible. In fact, recycled air is hazardous to health for the following reasons:

• Various contaminants, dust and even bacteria accumulate in the air over time and alter its quality.
• The use of water, especially for showering, laundry, dishwashing and other cleaning, humidifies the air and promotes the growth of mold.

Exposure to these pollutants and permanent humidity often leads to allergic reactions such as colds, rhinitis, conjunctivitis or asthma in the most sensitive. Some people even develop more or less serious lung diseases over the long term. Ventilation consists of evacuating stale air and replacing it with fresh air from the outside to provide healthier living conditions for the occupants of the house.

What is the role of ventilation ducts?

The use of an air exchanger is generally recommended if your home’s insulation is optimal. It is a ventilation system whose role is to renew the air inside. The ventilation ducts are the closed containers through which fresh air and stale air circulate to be respectively brought back inside and evacuated. Thus, they are connected to the inlet and outlet ports of the air exchanger. The scheme is simple:

1. On the one hand, a fan sucks in the stale air from the interior, which then passes through the corresponding ventilation duct to be expelled.
2. On the other hand, another fan draws in fresh air from outside, which will pass through the corresponding ventilation duct to the heating or cooling system before being released into the house.

It should be noted that the 2 flows are never in contact and that the air is continuously renewed.
